Rolf harris can you tell what it is yet exhibition

As part of the exhibition the royal portrait will be on display during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations this year. The exhibition includes self-portraits, portraits, paintings of wildlife, urban and rural landscapes and studies of people and everyday life from home and abroad.

The range of subjects reflects the wide range of experiences and locations that Rolf has encountered in his personal life and his long and illustrious career. There is also a selection of drawings offering a different insight into this ageless, extrovert character, who has been with us since the very beginning of national television in theUK. His phenomenal career in art and entertainment spans sixty years. It displays the various ways Rolf has succeeded in bringing art into the lives of millions of people both here in the UK and abroad, from Rolf on Art, his hugely popular BBC TV programme, which has covered the lives and techniques of many great artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Gainsborough and van Gogh, to his own work, which exudes such a joy of painting.

Alongside the artworks will be a large and fascinating array of artefacts and memorabilia including objects from his childhood to the present day. The exhibition includes an insight into how Rolf creates one of his paintings from start to finish and a neat little montage of clips that summarises his 60 year career.

The Art is displayed in several rooms, and deal with his TV persona and musical career hmm, not sure I would stand up and declare him as a musician , his early life and memorabilia, his methods and a thematic rather than chronological approach grouping his art under headings such as urban, suburban, portraiture and Rolf on Art. There are useful and detailed narrative panels to accompany each piece which describe the work and a re-creation of his studio and his methods.

But most impressive are the sweeping and vibrant landscapes of his beloved native Australia. Harris is 81 years old and has given us just a glimpse of a lifetime of work that reveals real talent, an eye for beauty and colour and an amazing rumbustious life-affirming resilience. The final painting in the exhibition Coffee and Cola for the Lads was a piece by Harris from on his visit to Liverpool to put together the exhibition, and entirely captures the life and enthusiasm of a group of men outside a bar.

This painting reminded me of the earlier People Observed paintings, and suggests that Harris may return to more humble subjects, rather than famous faces in his next work.

My favourites among these include Raining on the Rock which is an enormous depiction of Ayers Rock, composed of reds and pinks, framing the iconic landmark against an expanse of sky, and a weeping tree in the foreground developed from splashes of paint, reminiscent of the work of Jackson Pollack.

Other stand-out pieces from this section included Barcodes Venice, an image interesting in terms of composition, framing the river in a portrait orientation, suggesting the lingering evening light, rather than presenting the landscape piece in the traditional format.

His process is intriguing, and his work striking, and the exhibition explores the true artistic master behind the TV personality. This review was written for artinliverpool. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account.
